New report emphasises Workforce Development as the key to Australia’s future prosperity

In March 2013 the Chair of the Australian Workforce Development Agency, Mr Phillip Bullock released a 200 page report titled Future Focus. The report outlines a vision to realise Australia’s growth potential through a highly skilled and adaptable workforce where skills are used effectively to meet the increasingly complex needs of industry, and individuals are able to fulfil their potential. The report demonstrates how workforce development is critical to achieve the vision with benefits for industry, the individual and the national economy. Good management is the key to business success

Few people would be startled to learn that there is a strong link between highly skilled managers and happy, productive employees. What is startling however is the extent to which the quality of management affects the performance of businesses.

A report into the link between management and productivity found that managers’ adoption of best practice techniques was linked more closely to market share, market valuation and productivity than other factors such as location, industry or government policy. The study showed that it was the best managed companies which achieved the highest scores for performance such as sales per employee, rate of revenue and market share growth.

Global first for sustainable event management

Training in Sustainable Event Management is now available for the first time to events students in Australia through an educational institute. In a global first, TAFE’s Travel 21fiftythree is offering training to events students in use of the Sustainable Event Management System (SEMS). Knowledge of this system will put these students ahead of their peers in the events industry.

Work health and safety – get your business up to speed

The potential hazards within workplaces remain the same, but new health and safety laws relating to the workplace have recently been enacted in Australia.

In 2012, a single model for health and safety within workplaces was introduced for all Australian states and territories. Replacing nine separate Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Acts, the new Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws mean that a consistent approach to workplace safety is now in place across the nation.
